modern jungle funk update

this week, the alternate desk showed up on my doorstep!  it's from world market, as a lacquered campaign desk was not in the budget.  so, i took the liberty to paint and find a paint that would look like a shiny lacquer finish.  i used an oil-based, industrial-type paint from benjamin moore.  and, i would give the exact name/type of paint but label on the can is all covered up with paint!  i called the store and the paint is called super spec high performance metal paint.  i used less than a half a quart to do one coat.  this not so good diy project person is just proud to have painted a whole furniture piece.

as you can see, the paint is super glossy.

this is after one coat...and the only coat this desk will have.  i am thinking of adding hardware or at least a drawer pull.

my alternate pillow fabric is being sewn into throw pillows this week.  i've found lots of other pillows on my shopping trips for this room.  here are some of the colors and textures that may make into the final styling, or maybe not.

making progress here (despite my beloved laptop dying, and learning how to use a mac instead of a pc).  looking forward to next week and the reveal...styling is one of my favorite things to do!  xoxo, dana

  1. I'm digging the black glossy desk! I might have to do that to my white desk I just got from west elm. And it looks great with the fabrics you chose for the pillows! Great job!

    1. thank you lauren. my first time using oil-based paint to get a lacquer-like look! i used benjamin moore's super spec high performance metal paint (had to call the store for the name...i had so much drippy paint it covered the label). good luck with your desk, dana

    1. hello kathleen. the paint is not super smooth, i like it this way though as it goes with my design...it shows a bit of the wood texture but is still shiny like a lacquer. another coat would smooth it out possibly. see the comment above if you'd like to try out the paint i used. dana

  8. Love what you've done thus far! I've been eyeing that desk from World Market for over a year now! Needless to say, we need a desk that kids will not get into, ha. Looking forward to your big reveal! A few more days, we got this!
