simple dessert idea: easy to make decadent chocolate truffles

one of my favorite things this time of year is to make and share chocolates.  many years ago, a friend made these chocolate candies that just melted in my mouth and were so creamy and good that i've kept (and used) her recipe card since then.

these are my version of the truffle, without the grand marnier (better for family treats), but you could add the liquor or any flavored extract too.  and, i found these awesome, edible gold stars and thought they would be great for a new year's chocolate truffle.  so, here they are...my gold star new year chocolate truffles.

recipe

1 2/3 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 pound semi-sweet chocolate, broken
2 tablespoons grand marnier (optional)

1.  put cream and butter into a sauce pan; allow butter to melt over medium heat-stir constantly; turn up heat, allowing cream to just come to a boil
2.  turn off heat, add chocolate into sauce pan; stir well until melted.  this is when you would add the extract or liquor if desired.  cover and place in refrigerator for 2-3 hours or until firm enough to scoop.
3.  scoop into bite sized balls; roll in cocoa powder or dip in melted chocolate.

these are so good, are quick to make (minus the chilling time) and are one of those things guests (and friends) always remember and love.  from my home to yours with love, dana
