fall trip to the cider mill

the sun was shining, bees were busily hovering above in hopes of taking in the sweet-smelling nectar in the air.  sounds like the beginning of a blissful novel right?  nope, reality it was yesterday...and it was the perfect family outing.  well...almost.  we brought the two teenagers along and let's just say they were not as enthusiastic as liam!

hmmmm...which one should we choose?
a 54 pound beauty was the final choice!
lots of cider and donuts too, and we watched a cider press circa 1890 press 200 gallons of cider.
my kids requested one of their favorite desserts, apple crisp.  this simple, betty crocker inspired recipe, I adapted and added ground chia seeds to the topping ( no one even noticed)...shhhhh.

recipe
4 medium apples, chopped
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c oats
1/4 c ground chia seeds
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 teas ground cinnamon

heat oven to 375degrees.  grease bottom and sides of 8x8x2 inch pan with butter

place apples in pan.  mix remaining ingredients.  sprinkle over apples.

bake 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown.  serve warm with ice cream or cream....and...enjoy!
here's to family and fall!  xoxo, Dana
